News from Sunset Room 9

Kia Ora

We are an active, energetic and inquisitive class of 5 and 6 year olds. We are non-verbal with high to very high needs. In room 9 there are 3 boys and 2 girls, 2 very supportive, loving and hard-working Teacher Aides, Linda and Solangel.  Our teacher is Sylvia and with our wonderful teacher aides they help us with our learning. All of our teachers think we are an awesome bunch of tamariki with oodles of talents.

Every few weeks we have a release teacher who comes in to work with us. We also have specialist teachers in for Speech and Language, Orientation and Mobility, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist. Furthermore, we have a Specialist teacher for Maori and Music also visiting our class regularly this year. We are also very lucky to have Music with Jono on Wednesdays and Waiata with Aiden on Fridays

In Room 9 we are focusing on Play Based Learning around our theme of Tangata Whenua -  Belonging. As we live in Rotorua and surrounded by so much water, our exploration will be around water play  - and we love water play! This year we are swimming each Tuesday at the Aquatic Centre and RDA on Thursdays. We will also visit our Base School,  Kea Street, to do PMP and Sensory activities with our Occupational Therapist, Pearl. After our OT sessions, there may be opportunities to ride bikes and jump on the trampoline.

Our days are packed with fun-filled learning .
