Room 5 - Te Kura Pūkenga o Rotoua
Our room is at base, 36 Kea Street and we are an amazing class of seven students, aged from twelve to twenty.
We have six young men, Hekenukumaingaiwi, Kalais, Novel, Stacey, Siosifa and Casey-John, who has just joined our class this year. Our sole young woman is Waimarie.
Class work is supported by our capable team of Teacher Aides, Sharee, Kylie and Dawn.
Our program is based around Individual Education Plans, (the I.E.P.) which is designed in consultation with whanau and teacher. Our I.E.P.s also have regular input from our awesome team of therapists - Mandana, Speech Language; Michelle, Orientation and Mobility, Pearl, Occupational therapy and Anne, Physiotherapy. We do learning activities daily towards meeting the goals of our I.E.P.s.
The weekly program is also supported through visits by Phil for music and Matua Aiden for Te Reo Māori. We are fortunate to be able to get out into the community using our school vans and we visit places of interest to support our learning, e.g. shopping, fitness walks, forest and playgrounds.
This term we are focused on the school wide theme centred around the new national Social Sciences history curriculum.
We are looking forward to having an awesome year.
Ron Thornton, Kaiako.
