Kia ora from Room 5 at Base.
Room 5 has increased to seven students this year including three new students, following the transition of our two 21 year olds, Destiny and Justin to new adventures at the end of 2020. We wish them both well. Student ages range from thirteen to nineteen, comprising six boys, Ngawari, Hekenuku, Stacey, Kalais, Novel and Sifa and one girl, Waimarie.
Ron is our teacher and he is ably assisted by our Teacher Aides, Angela, Jodi and Shelley, who has joined us this year from her previous position in the Kaitao class. We also have regular input from our Specialists, Mandana, Michelle, Susie and Cian.
Our program sticks to a steady routine, starting the day with our morning program of llanguage related activities, including the Bucket Time Attention program which helps us to be able to develop focus on a fun activity. We do movement and fitness related activities every day including PMP circuits, Zumba, walking and swimming. Math is a highlight of the day and we are able to use the Smart board on-line Numicon program as well as the Numicon shapes equipment to help us learn about number.
Room 5 enjoys going out in the school van and we visit lots of community places around Rotorua, including the Library, Trees Trust, Aquatic Centre, Polynesian pools, the Redwoods and various city playgrounds.
Room 5 is looking forward to a great year.
