Malfroy - Room 17 News

In 2023, the Malfroy Room 17 class consists of 6 students - Maxwell, Vaelei, Jackson, Arihia, Honor and Elias who all range from 7 to 10 years old. We are also very lucky to have a very experienced and well rounded teaching team - Sarah (Teacher) and 3 Teacher Aides - Frankie, Vera and Marcia.

Classroom life is centred around the individual education goals of each child. We focus on goals based on Communication, Math, Life Skills and PE/Health. Lessons are planned and implemented based on the needs of the child and the goals they are working towards. Life Skills are very important for our students, therefore these goals are integrated and woven into school life. Additionally, community integration is another important aspect of our school week, as we visit public places around Rotorua and experience the world around us.

This term we look forward to participating in Riding for the Disabled, Yoga with our Physiotherapist, PMP at base school, community based walks at locations such as the Redwoods, and also visiting places of significance in Rotorua such as local Marae, Hinemoa's Rock, etc. We also enjoy waiata and haka with our Maori tutor Aiden, music therapy with Music Teacher Phil, Speech Language lessons with our therapist Mandana, Occupational Therapy (including sensory activities and emotional regulation) with our OT Pearl and Physiotherapy and Yoga with therapist Ann. Other fun activities at school are Science experiments, water play, mainstream integration, cooking and art!

We look forward to having a successful year ahead.
