My name is Zac Markham , I am the kaiako of room 1a at Rotorua Specialist School . I teach alongside two amazing teacher aides /support staff Jodi Hohneck and Greg Rerehau .
There are five amazing tamariki in our class - Casey -John Whare , Ishayat Zaman ,Robert Scott , Taiporotu Te Naera and Souljah Jenkins-Hutana .
All students have written individual education goals that are implemented through the educational programme as part of each school day . The individual education plans ( IEP’s) have regular input from whanau , the classroom teacher and our wonderful specialists Mandana ( speech -language therapist ) ,Cian Harte ( occupational therapist ) and Suzie Nyika ( physiotherapist ) . Each week we are visited by Phil Oxenham ( our music teacher ) and Aiden Taipeti , our Kapa Haka and Te Reo Maori teacher .
As a class we have been going swimming at the Aquatics centre and MIGS ( the GYM ) once a week as well as visiting the community during our regular van outings .Places we have visited as a class include the tree trust , the redwoods , government gardens and local playgrounds .
Class 1a has also been working on a Managing Self module which is part of the SPEC ( Supported Preparation for Employment and Citizenship) course . Students in room 1a are working within the entry course level . This includes activities from a variety of subject areas within level 1 of the New Zealand curriculum . All the young people in the class are supported positively to complete these activities using praise and encouragement by the fantastic staff on a daily basis.
